Residential Admission Criteria

Admission to residential aged care is recommended on a priority basis based on the medical/social needs identified by an aged care assessment.

Individuals can be referred for assessment by the GP, or people can self-refer.

Aged Care Assessment Services (ACAs) helps older people and their families and carers find out what care is best for older people when they can no longer manage at home without help.  ACAS assesses and approves older people for aged care services such as:

  • Home Care Packages

  • Transition care for people immediately after a hospital stay

  • Residential respite care

  • Residential aged care

Inglewood & Districts Health Service’s ACAS is provided by Bendigo Health.  To get in touch with them, call (03) 5454 7589.

Residential Aged Care Costs

The costs of residential aged care are made up of a number of parts.  Depending on your situation you may be asked to pay one or more of the following costs:

A basic daily care fee – this covers the costs such as meals, power and laundry.  For some people this will be the only fee they are required to pay which is calculated at 85% of the aged pension.

A means-tested care fee – this is a means-tested fee that is payable by some residents.  It’s an additional contribution to the cost of the care you receive in a residential aged care home.  This is measured upon submission of the combined assets and income assessment form from the Department of Human Services

An accommodation payment – this is the cost associated with the accommodation, including the room that you occupy.  Inglewood & Districts Health Service have set a maximum accommodation price of $350,000 which will be assessed against the combined assets and income assessment.

Residents can choose to make their accommodation payment in one of three ways:

1. A Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD).  You can pay the room price in full as a lump sum refundable deposit.  This amount is held by the aged care facility for the duration of your residency and is fully refundable when you leave.

2. A Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP).  You can choose to not pay the lump sum amount, but a daily interest equivalent amount added to your monthly accounts.

3. A combination of RAD and DAP.  You can pay any portion of the RAD lump sum amount and pay the remaining balance as a DAP equivalent.

More information about fees and charges are available on the My Aged Care website.

Respite Care

Short term accommodation in our residential aged care is available by prior arrangement.

This may be when family members or carers need to take a break or have other commitments.  Respite care is also an excellent opportunity for people to trial residential accommodation prior to making a long-term commitment.
